Web UI/UX Designer
Under the leadership of our Chief Executive, Professor Paul Workman FRS, the ICR is ranked as the UK’s leading academic research centre. Together with our partner The Royal Marsden, we are rated in the top four cancer centres globally.
The ICR is committed to attracting, developing and retaining the best minds in the world to join us in our mission – to make the discoveries that defeat cancer.
Our Department of Data Science (DDS) is a cross-divisional department comprising data science and computational biology teams. Specifically, as part of the ICR/RMH CRUK-Centre Integrated Informatics and Big Data Initiative, the DDS is leading the internationally renowned canSAR knowledgebase (https://cansar.icr.ac.uk) and the Knowledge Hub Big Data initiative. While maintaining clearly differentiated standpoints, both web-based systems are designed for capturing, integrating, analysing and sharing a wide range of multidisciplinary data across biology, chemistry, pharmacology, cellular networks, pre-clinical and clinical annotations. We develop and apply novel computational approaches including machine learning and AI to support data-driven decisions in scientific discoveries for drug discovery and adaptive therapy.
Within this context, the UI/UX design landscape for this particular type of applications holds three distinctive elements. First, it needs to be adaptable to accommodate in future the growth of both data and data types. Second, it needs to provide comprehensive but meaningful experiences to different types of experts across academia and industry. And third, thanks to the tight connection between the ICR and the RMH and our breadth of expertise, we are exceptionally well positioned for taking our research results to be validated in the lab and to eventually be implemented in the clinic, thus ensuring the strongest impact in patient care. This is why this position offers an in-unison exciting and challenging opportunity for a UX/UI designer with room for deploying a set of skills, methods and body of knowledge that goes beyond what the classic website UI/UX demands.
We are seeking for a talented and experienced UI/UX Designer to join the Data Science team for owning and driving the UI/UX design process and decisions of our web-based research platforms through the entire lifecycle, from conceptualisation and evaluation to evaluation and final design deliverables.
The diversity of skills in the team and active projects, alongside software engineers, chemists, bioinformaticians, biologists and clinicians, provides the ideal scenario to the post holder for bringing users into the design process.
