We are seeking an analytical scientist with experience in Statistical Genetics/Bioinformatics to join the Breast Cancer Research Bioinformatics Group at the Breast Cancer Now Centre (ICR, South Kensington site, London). Our goal is to use cutting-edge data-mining techniques in collaboration with experimental investigators to identify new molecular markers of breast cancer. Resultant markers will be validated by co-investigators at the centre and at the clinical trials unit of the ICR.

You will work as part of a team of inter-disciplinary data scientists who are experts in NGS-data analysis, machine learning and software development, offering unique learning opportunities. Your work will focus on the development and validation of hypotheses, dissecting genetic/genomic assays to delineate links between breast cancer risk loci and their target pathways, and to generate molecular markers of breast cancer. The work will include application of existing tools as well as development of statistical methods using in-house (and publicly available) genomic and epigenomic datasets. These datasets will require strong statistical and analytical skills to perform integrated analysis and visualisation of complex multi-omic datasets. You will have opportunities to create/optimise computational pipelines and develop new statistical methods for the analysis and interpretation of big data in breast cancer. You will work closely with experimental biologists and hence it is essential to be able to communicate your findings effectively to biologists and clinicians.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

  • Statistical analysis in R and/or STATA
  • Analysis of high-throughput sequencing datasets
  • Automation and scripting of common analytical tasks
  • Development of analysis methods for new platforms and technologies where necessary
  • Collaborate with other teams within the Breast Cancer Now Centre and ICR
  • Reporting progress in analysis of projects to lab meetings
  • Preparation of data/manuscripts for presentations and publications
  • Any other duties which may be required which are consistent with the nature and grade of the post

Applicants should hold a degree in a computational subject, have programming and scripting experience, and must have a basic knowledge of biology. It is essential to hold a post-graduate qualification in bioinformatics/biostatistics/computational biology or have gained significant experience within biostatistics role/s.

The starting salary is set out within the Analytical Scientist payscale, which has a salary range of £32,000 - £40,000 p.a. inclusive, based on relevance of skills and experience. Progression is determined by annual performance review.
