The Centre for Evolution and Cancer within the ICR and headed by Professor Sir Mel Greaves is supported by a strategic award from the Wellcome Trust. The Centre focusses on interrogating clonal evolution in tumours by studying the dynamics of heterogeneous cancer cell populations and their microenvironment. In the Centre, we make use of multi-region genomic profiling, single-cell genetics, computational histopathological analysis and mathematical modelling to reconstruct the past evolutionary history of tumours and predict their future.

Team Leader in Computational Methods for Cancer Evolution

We are committed to take on the challenge of cancer’s complexity, evolution and progression through the discovery of innovative new approaches to cancer patient risk stratification. We want to build capacity in cancer evolutionary modelling, and particularly in the development of novel computational methods, with particular focus on the use of machine learning techniques, to analyse the large volume of cancer genomic data produced within our centre from patient samples and model systems. We are also very interested in developing techniques to analyse single-cell genomic and transcriptomic data generated by the single-cell unit within our centre. 

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated researcher to establish an independent research programme focusing on the development of novel statistical modelling techniques based on Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to analyse cancer genomic data, in order to contribute to the research of the Centre for Evolution and Cancer. This new team will be expected to work in association with Professor Mel Greaves FRS and in collaboration with the other faculty members of the Centre for Evolution and Cancer.

The appointment may be made at a tenure-track equivalent (Career Development Faculty) level. Appropriate support (including staff and consumables) for the successful applicant’s team will be provided.
